  • Houve sempre mais para a história Johnny Winter do que aparenta, e se entrar no papel de um blues elétrico albino electric blues guitar player from Texas com um estilo de slides brilhante foi o papel que ele nasceu para preencher, ele levou um tempo para chegar lá. Para começar, ele nasceu no Mississippi, o que pode explicar alguma coisa, e então cresceu no Texas, onde ele tocava clarinete antes de mudar para o violão aos 11 anos de idade. Desde cedo ele jogou country antes de descobrir o blues, e percebendo que havia sem dinheiro e pouco futuro em tocar o blues, ele se voltou para o estúdio pop no início dos anos 60. Os tempos mudam, porém, e até o final de década que o inverno tinha voltado para o blues, onde ser um guitarrista incrível com uma voz crepitante trouxe-lhe a sua verdadeira vocação. É aí que este quatro discos, box set 56-track pega a história, o primeiro set para abranger o comercial e in-the-olhos do público parte da carreira de Winter, a partir de 1968 e percorre todo o caminho através de suas raízes álbum 'Roots' , que foi lançado em 2011, habilmente desenho em cerca de 27 álbuns de vários rótulos, incluindo Liberty/Imperial, Columbia, Blue Sky/Epic, Alligator, Point Blank/Virgin, Friday Music, Collectors' Choice Music, Megaforce, and Legacy. É um catálogo impressionante  A carreira de Winter já lhe fez nada menos do que um monumento, realmente, no mundo de blues pós-modernos, um jogador ícone que poderia levar uma canção como "Highway 61 Revisited" de Bob Dylan (incluído aqui) e fazer a sua própria, transformando o que é, talvez, a versão definitiva do mesmo, da mesma maneira que Jimi Hendrix fez com Dylan "All Along the Watchtower". É uma comparação apt, realmente, porque apesar de Winter nunca se tinha o talento teatral que Hendrix tinha (não se pode imaginar Winter queimando uma guitarra no palco, por exemplo), ele pode ter sido apenas como responsável pela idéia de poder moderno blues, e, certamente, ninguém fez isso mais ou feito isso melhor do que Johnny Winter. Este conjunto de caixa apresenta uma enorme  legado.
