As vezes imitado mas nunca repetido o som de líder e fundador, Spencer Perskin, é sem dúvida a espinha dorsal da Headband Shiva. Perskin começou sua carreira aos 8 anos, e pela idade 9 foi aceito como estudante de música especial na Southern Methodist University em Dallas, onde estudou por oito anos. Durante seus anos de colégio, ele tocou com o Alto Hillcrest Orchestra, a Band Hillcrest ea Dal-Hi Orchestra. Na sequência do ensino médio, participaram Perskin North Texas State University, onde ele, junto com colegas de classe Michael Murphy e Steve Fromholz, era um membro da escola Folk Music Club. Três anos depois, em Austin, ele e sua esposa, Susan, e amigos fundaram a soon-to-be-Headband Shiva famoso. Releases information: Shiva's Headband, an early Texas psychedelic rock band, formed in Austin in 1967. The group was the house band at the Vulcan Gas Co., a late 1960s Austin nightclub. The band is credited with a significant role in the founding of the Armadillo World Headquarters, and was the first band to perform there. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, the band played with touring acts such as Spirit, Steppenwolf, ZZ Top, Janis Joplin, Canned Heat and Steve Miller. Austin psychedelic bands contemporary to Shiva's Headband included the 13th Floor Elevators and Conqueroo. "Led by Spencer Perskin, Shiva's Headband were well known on the 60s SF psychedelic scene for their strong live shows, scoring a Capitol Records deal in 1969. Returning to their home of Austin, TX during the 70s and beyond, the band released several albums and singles. Psychedelic Yesterdays was recorded at McAdams studio in Austin in 1977 and originally released on the Austin-based Ape label." Doesn't appear to include the 1968 45 single 'Kaleidescoptic / Song for Peace' (as advertised by the label), but does include the bonus tracks: "Mr. Butts" & "Insanity".
