38 Special (também escrito .38 Special or Thirty-Eight Special) é uma banda de rock que foi formada por amigos de bairro Dom Barnes e Donnie Van Zant em 1975, em Jacksonville, Florida. A banda dois primeiros álbuns tiveram um grande southern rock vibe. Até o início de 1980, 38 Special mudou para um estilo mais acessível arena rock, sem abandonar suas raízes rock do sul. Essa mudança ajudou a inaugurar uma série de álbuns e singles de sucesso.

Sua descoberta foi hit "Hold On Loosely" (1981), "Caught Up In You" (1982) e "Se eu tivesse sido a única" (1983), tanto hit # 1 na Billboard Album Chart da revista Rock Tracks. "Back Where You Belong" (1984) continuou a seqüência anual de favoritos de rádio, e "Second Chance" (1989) foi um hit # 1 na parada Billboard adulto contemporâneo.
Em 2007, 38 Special foi o acto de abertura do Lynyrd Skynyrd e Hank Williams Jr. Rowdy Frynds Tour, e em 27 de setembro de 2008, eles filmaram um CMT Crossroads especial com o cantor country Trace Adkins, realizando dois hits de artistas de mais de anos. Em 2009, 38 Special aberto para REO Speedwagon e Styx, como parte do "Can't Stop Tour Rockin '".
